A nifty little Mail Notifier

A few years ago I discovered a nifty little mail notifier program called PopTray. And I have been using it every since. What does the PopTray mail notifier do? Basically it checks your pop mailbox for new mail and notifies you when there are new ones received. More than that, it is a full featured and customizable program . Let's look at some of its main features:

  • Unlimited number of Accounts
  • Show number of messages directly on the TrayIcon (rotating by account)
  • Quickly preview a message
  • Delete messages from the server without downloading them
  • Rules that identify a message according to your criteria, then does one of these actions:
    * Play different notification sound
    * Delete from the server
    * Run any EXE file
    * Mark as Spam
  • Has plugins supports
  • Spam management using rules and white/black lists
  • Mulitple notfications (play sound, pop-up, etc)
  • Translated into 30+ languages

PopTray sits in the background (in the system tray) and checks my mailboxes periodically, and notifies me when there are new mail (the icon will change to show number of new mail). I would open up PopTray (see image above), and here I can view the mail and delete what I determined as spam mail without even needing to download the mail first. And I wish I could quickly preview the email message too without downloading them with my email client program. That's useful for deleting email that I do not wish to save, after previewing them. I have a number of mailboxes set up and they are separated into different tabs. Easy to click the different tabs to view mail in that box. When I am ready to download the mail (minus the spam mail), I click the button that is configured by me to link to my Email program and I'm in my email program. In conclusion, PopTray serves well as a pre-screening tool so that when I do download my mail from the mail server, they will be mail that I want to keep. And it is one of the best mail notifier that I have used.
