Alternative to Windows Media Player

If you are a regular user of Windows Media Player, and are satisfied with it for your needs, then stick with it. The important thing is that you are happy using what you have. But if Windows Media Player doesn't quite meet your needs, for example, couldn't play many of the unusual media formats you threw at it, then I would suggest that you check out the VLC Media Player.

VLC Media Player offers a one-stop solution for the common file-format problem. This program supports a whole slew of file types whether common or unusual ones. Common playbacks like MP2, MP3, MP4, OGG, DivX, DVD are all supported by VLC Media Player. I once downloaded a YouTube video that has a flv format which I was unfamiliar with, when I tried it with VLC Media Player, to my pleasant surprise, the program was able to play it. Whereas other media player like Windows Media Player and Winamp that I also have, couldn't. So, even if you already have your favorite media player, it is good to have VLC Media Player around for its ability to open just about any type of video file you throw at it.
