Skype 2.0 Beta for Linux

Skype 2.0 Beta for Linux, the Great Revolution, was released on November 7, 2007.
Even though I am not a serious Skype user, but because I'm getting into gear on migrating to Linux, particularly to Ubuntu, this release mean that it is one more plus for the migration. Skype 2.0 offers the new video calling functionality which has been the most requested feature for Skype for Linux. One other feature I thought would be a useful one is the automatic answering of incoming calls. One could set up a video cam with Skype and turn it into a monitoring device, that you can dial in anytime from remote to view the scene, for example at home.

Most of the features included in this release are video related. Other than some improvements over the previous version I don't think there is really all that many new things. I have`yet to try out the video feature to see if it is really a good improvement. All in all, this 2.0 release basically is a boost for the Linux users who were deprived of this feature whereas the video calling capability is already available on Skype for Windows before this release.
